On all computers, be it Windows or UNIX there are some certain actions that you will be taking every once in a while.
One of those actions is the upgrading of XCode in UNIX.
The error xcrun error invalid active developer path is simply telling you to upgrade your XCode.
Maybe you have upgraded it before, it doesn’t matter. You have to do it again this time.
Now comes the question of how to upgrade the XCode.
Use the following command:
There is a big difference between the people that use Windows computers and us that use UNIX.
I noticed that many of my Windows-lover friends don’t find using the command line easy.
I will show you one or two things about the UNIX command line later on this page.
After running the command, your computer will download and install XCode and the error is fixed.
However, you might be having many versions of MAC OS on your computer. And you want to change the version of XCode to use OR you don’t want to use the XCode, just the command line tools. Then you have to change the path of your XCode
Here are the commands to do that:
xcode-select --switch /Applications/Xcode.app xcode-select --switch /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
One of the ways to boost the effectiveness of a computer is to update its software every time there something new.
And we do that every time.
Except if you are the type that is not so bothered by the constant threat we have around in this day and age.
I pity many Windows users though.
Here’s my point:
Update as soon as you can.
You have to update the XCode whenever there is an update available even if it is a small patch.
And you restart the terminal after each update.
xcode-select: note: install requested for command line developer tools
I only know a few installations that don’t require you as a UNIX user to have an account.
What I am about to share is one of them
Some of us still want the traditional UNIX tools. I do and I have many friends that also prefer those tools.
You can have these tools without installing all the whole XCode.
And you don’t need login details too.
These traditional tools are available from MAC OS 10.9 to 10.13 and the new versions.
You will get the utilities, tools, and compilers.
What Is xcrun?
Do you know how to run a tool in XCode?
For example, you run dwarfdump in XCODE. Xrun is what makes that to be possible.
Xrun allows the user to search and run commands in XCode.
In some years back…
Just like the voucher on your phone. It is what allows you to dial your friend’s phone number and speak to her on the phone.
Without the voucher you can’t make a call, the phone will still be there though.
Things have changed now though. You can now make phone calls without a voucher.
